Paws, Claws, Wings & other Things
Heat stroke is a condition arising from extremely high body temperature (rectal temperature of 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit), which leads to nervous system abnormalities that may include lethargy, weakness, collapse or coma. Abnormally high body temperature (also called hyperthermia) develops after increased muscular activity with impaired ability to give off heat due to high heat and humidity or respiratory obstruction. Allowing a dog to remain in a car with closed windows on a hot summer day is probably the most common cause of heat stroke.
Heat-related illnesses, including heat stroke, heat exhaustion and heat cramps can occur after exposure to extremely high environmental temperatures. These illnesses occur in all mammals and can be prevented by taking proper precautions.
Animals at greatest risk for heat-related illness include:
- Puppies up to 6 months of age
- Overweight dogs
- Dogs overexerted during exercise
- Dogs that are ill or receiving certain medications
- Brachycephalic breeds (dogs with short, wide heads like pugs, English bulldogs, Boston terriers)
- Dogs with obstructive airway diseases
- Dogs with pre-existing fever
- Dogs that are dehydrated
- Dogs with heart disease
- Dogs with poor circulation due to cardiovascular or other underlying disease
- Older pets (large breed dogs over 7 years of age, small breed dogs over 14 years of age)
- Pets with a history of seizures
What to Watch For:
- Noisy breathing that may indicate upper airway obstruction
- Excessive panting
- Bright red mucous membranes (gums, conjunctiva of the eyes)
- Altered state of mind
- Petechial hemorrhaging (pinpoint purplish red spots on the gums and/or skin)
Strutting Their Stuff - Dog Walking
Larger breeds and high energy dogs will benefit from a quick pace, keeping the heart healthy, the mind alert and the weight optimal. Senior dogs and less active breeds require regular exercise and emotional stimulation too. Overweight dogs are always welcome; regular exercise decreases body fat that puts stress on all vital organs, hips and legs. Dogs that are walked for one hour can be taken to local parks and trails; visiting different locations offers your canine new scents, sounds and sights, and keeps them from becoming bored with their surroundings. Yes...dogs do suffer from depression!
We walk dominant, strong willed, aggressive and fearful dogs.
Please enquire if your dog has personality or behavioural issues.
$18.00/30 minutes ~ $15 if 4 or more walks per week
$25.00/60 minutes ~ $20 if 4 or more walks per week

The Whole Kit & KaPoodle - Grooming
The road to healthy coats and skin is achieved with regular grooming. We use only all natural dog shampoos and conditioners. A dry bath might be recommended if your pooch has sensitive skin or is exceptionally nervous. Grooming includes nail trimming and ear cleaning..
Prices vary according to the size of your dog and the length of the coat. Flea and tick baths are available.
Baby Bootie Camp - Basic Obedience
The key to having an exceptional adult dog begins with training at an early age. Your puppy will learn the basic commands needed to ensure that he/she is well behaved and easy to handle as it grows. Because puppies are reward driven they will receive lots of treats that are included in the price of this service. Training is always done through positive reinforcement. A dog is never too old to learn basic obedience. All age groups are welcome.
Boot Camp - Formal Obedience
Organized classes are available at a training facility of your choice. This is a great opportunity for older dogs that might have self-esteem issues or need to become comfortable around other dogs and humans. Training treats are provided in this service.
$20.00/class plus the cost of the course. Travel charges also apply.
Running with the Big Dogs
Socialization is vital for the emotional well-being and physical health of all dogs. This service was designed for dogs that don't frequent off leash parks. Koda and Diesel are my fur-kids and are an excellent alternative to dog parks; they are wonderful companions for medium to giant breeds. Please call for more information about this service.
Koda, Diesel and/or Bella are available to either run in your fenced yard with your dog, or accompany your dog on walks. This very unique service is available if your dog/dogs are current with the following vaccines: rabies, parvovirus and bordatella (kennel cough). Meet Diesel and Koda to find out who is the most suitable companion for your dog!
